FAQ

Are Hollywood and Bollywood bigger than Bollywood?

Producing films that are well-received is the most difficult challenge.

Problem is, there are many movies competing to people's attention and money. And if you don't stand out from the crowd, you won't have much chance of getting watched.

But what makes a movie popular? What makes an actor or director famous? Or a director? It's not just talent - it's also luck. No matter how talented your actors are, if they have poor scripts, it will be impossible to get the job done.

There are two types of films: independent productions and blockbuster movies with big budgets. Blockbuster movies are expensive to produce and distribute. They're usually made by huge studios who want to ensure their movies reach as wide an audience as possible. However, these films with big budgets appeal mostly to older viewers.

Independent films are usually smaller productions that can be funded by investors or individuals. These films are often targeted at niche markets and appeal to particular tastes. These films are typically less expensive to produce and sell. This doesn't necessarily mean they are cheaper to watch. Many indie films can be difficult to find.

The question is: Do we really need both types of movies? Is it necessary to have both blockbuster and independent movies? Well, I think that Hollywood is actually bigger than Bollywood. Hollywood produces twice as many movies per annum than India.

How To

How to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1960 established the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The HWOF's Los Angeles location is at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is made up of 2,711 stars that are embedded in the Hollywood Boulevard sidewalk. Each star represents a person who has contributed to television, radio, theatre, music, motion pictures, or any other aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

To become a member of HWOF you will need to submit your name at the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. This submits your name then to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once approved, you receive a certificate of eligibility, which includes your name, date of birth, city of residence, occupation, and category. You will also receive a bronze plaque engraved with your name. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

You may apply to be a star if you are nominated by a HWOF member or if you make significant contributions to television, radio, TV, theatre, music or other forms of "popular culture". A committee reviews the nominations and determines whether they should be approved. If they do, they send a letter to the applicant's home address explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues an official check payable to Hollywood Chamber of commerce. This check is then sent to the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the artist or organization whose application was accepted. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce then pays half of the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs pays the remainder.

Once the artist has received his/her star, he/she becomes eligible to be included in the HWOF. You must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce the balance due to be included on the HWOF. The amount due will vary depending on how long ago you were nominated. For example, $15,000. Suppose you were first nominated as a nominee in 1990. You'd owe $10,000 if you were previously nominated in 1990.

If you want to remove yourself from the HWOF, you need to contact the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and pay off the remainder of your debt. They will remove the name of your from the list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

When nominated, one must have at least 18-years-old. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. After receiving a Star, one can still be Nominated for another star after ten Years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

A family member can nominate your name for a star. If there are no living relatives, then the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will place a memorial marker in front of the star.

Why not just have stars on every street?

The HWOF is not meant to be a historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened the star thefts? The thieves took around 1,200 stars. Each star is approximately 250-300 lbs in weight. That's about 4 tons of stars!
